History Touch of Lagoon Fusion of Talents

History

1984

Everything began in the "Technical Innovations" department of Jeanneau. Named Jeanneau Techniques Avancées (JTA), this unit was born from close collaboration between the management of Jeanneau, Fleury Michon, Philippe Poupon, and Jean-François de Prémorel. The first Lagoon 55 was introduced in 1987.

1987

On the right bank of the Garonne, the former ACSO shipyard (Ateliers & Chantiers du Sud-Ouest), also known as Forges & Chantiers de Gironde, began operating under the name Construction Navale Bordeaux.

1992

The Beneteau Group, as a global leader in sailboat construction, acquired Construction Navale Bordeaux. The first Lagoon 55s were produced using epoxy, fiberglass, carbon, and Kevlar in a vacuum process, employing the same technology used by the top racing boats of that time. Before the Lagoon 57 was introduced, around twenty vessels were built, followed by the Lagoon 37, 42, and 47 models, and in 1994, the Lagoon 67.

1997

Lagoon introduced the brand’s first production catamaran: the Lagoon 410, featuring innovative vertical hull windows (which allow for more interior space and prevent the greenhouse effect caused by sunlight entering through slanted windows).

1998

The Lagoon 380 made its world debut in La Rochelle. Comfortable and reliable, it still has no rival in its category. To date, nearly 1,000 vessels have been sold, sailing across all seven seas – a record for a sailing catamaran!

2004

Lagoon sets the trends! The birth of the Lagoon 440 model brought a wealth of innovations that broke the existing standards: a flybridge with all equipment on the roof, huge hull windows, a forward cockpit, wing-shaped wave-piercing nacelle, owner’s cabin with a central bed, dressing room, and separate shower… more than 100 vessels were sold before the model was even officially presented at the Miami Boat Show in 2004!

2007

Lagoon continued innovating and launched the Lagoon 420 Hybrid, the world’s first production catamaran available with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system.

2009

Lagoon introduced the Lagoon 620: a seaworthy, luxurious catamaran and the archetype of today’s leading Lagoon models. A world leader in its category, this model has sold over 100 vessels to date.

2016

Lagoon 42, presented at the Düsseldorf Boat Show, raised comfort and performance to unmatched levels for a 41-foot boat. That year, the brand expanded its range with the largest catamaran ever built in the shipyard: the SEVENTY 7, a luxury catamaran nearly 24 meters long.

2017

Lagoon continued its growth with the launch of the SEVENTY 8 motor yacht. It made its world premiere in Cannes alongside two new models joining the Lagoon yacht line: the Lagoon 40 and Lagoon 50. A new generation was born.

2021

The latest model, the Lagoon 51, was unveiled. This catamaran features an innovative design born from a sustainable building process, with onboard equipment designed to preserve the environment and a layout crafted for a new generation.

2024

Lagoon celebrates 40 years of expertise and innovation. Since 1984, Lagoon has been making its owners’ dreams come true. By 2024, 7,000 Lagoon catamarans will be sailing across the world.

Owner Reviews

Lange family and “Spirit of Ponta Preta”

There was a time when my whole being turned into a trance as soon as the leaves were moving in the trees, as I was thinking about the potential windsurf session that I was missing.
